Awareness
The moment the customer becomes aware of their problem, or of you. Which trigger sets the journey in motion, through which channel do they arrive, and which message sticks? In this stage you win attention, not the sale.
Questions that help
- ·Which event (internal or external) makes the problem urgent?
- ·Which channels does the customer use to orient themselves first: a search engine, a colleague, a podcast, an ad?
- ·Which words do they use themselves to describe the problem?
Example
An operations director runs into yet another scheduling error that costs money. One evening he googles 'automate construction planning', reads a LinkedIn post by a peer and ends up on our landing page.
Common mistake
Assuming the customer already knows your product and jumping straight to features. At this stage they are looking for recognition of their problem, not a product demo.
